Trinity Rodman’s Emotional Return (August 3, 2025)
Last week, after a four-month back injury layoff, Trinity Rodman returned to the field for the Washington Spirit. She scored the game-winning goal in her first match back, bursting into tears, and was embraced by her teammates.
Trinity didn’t dwell on the past, on rehab, setbacks, or pain. Instead, she grounded herself in the moment, focused on the simple present: the ball, her teammates, the moment on the field. That single-minded focus helped her deliver when it mattered most.

Grounding in the Now Enhances Performance
Research shows that present-moment focus, also known as mindful attention, shows that staying present lowers cortisol levels, boosts reaction time, and improves focus under pressure. When your brain lives in the moment, not past or future, you're primed for flow and better execution every time. Being where your feet are isn't just calming, it's a competitive advantage.
👣 Step Forward
“The Ground Game”
Before today’s reps, practices, or meetings, take 10 seconds and ground yourself:
Feel your feet on the floor.
Take a deep breath in, and slowly let it out.
Notice one thing you see, one thing you hear, and one thing you feel.
Say to yourself: “I’m right here. Right now. Let’s go.”
đź’Ą You win the moment by being in it.
