52 Weeks of Mental Mastery - Week 50: Control the Controllables
Control the Controllables ~ Focus on your response, not the circumstances
đź’¬ Quote
“You can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you respond.”
🔍 Question
What are you currently giving too much emotional energy to that you can’t actually control?
đź“– Story
This weekend, we flew to Colorado with the family to meet friends and go to a concert at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. We watched four incredible bands before The Elovaters were set to take the stage.
Then everything changed.
Right before the headliner, heavy rain started pouring. Our kids were soaked, freezing, and miserable. We waited it out for a while, but eventually had to leave.
Could we control the weather? No.
Could we control the timing? No.
Could we control the fact the band eventually came on later? No.
But we could control our attitude, perspective, and response.
Life, sports, and performance are full of moments like that. Things won’t always go according to plan.
The question is:
Can you stay composed when they don’t?
🧠Science
Stress increases when we focus on things outside our control.
But confidence, composure, and resilience grow when we focus on controllables like:
Effort
Attitude
Response
Body Language
Elite performers don’t waste energy fighting reality.
They adjust and move forward.
👣 Step Forward
Today, when something doesn’t go your way, pause and ask yourself:
“What CAN I control right now?”
Then put your energy there.
đź’Ą You may not control the conditions, but you always control your response.
